Concept

Our approach aims at authenticity by
> respecting depth, complexity and "aliveness" of culture
> integrating real people living the culture
> correcting historical ignorance and stereotypes
> connecting urban, rural and tribal youth
> connecting to indigenous organisations
> building bridges for authentic intercultural encounters, - living with the people
> empowering for effective grassroots sustainability cooperation

The young generation is seeking personal growth through ecological and cultural experience (see the recent study (pdf-file). Yet, there are few opportunities for authentic cultural encounters in school or while travelling.

The worldwide sustainability education sector and the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014) offer the perfect framwork for setting the Missing Link between conscientious urban and tribal people for developing sound omnicultural understanding and appreciation, evolving international exchange, community partnerships, grassroots cooperation, Fair Travelling and Fair Trade.

Arranged in the context of sustainability education, the CultureChannel shall serve to nurture sound understanding and appreciation of the cultures and peoples of the world, a sound understanding of how culture relates to "way of life" and the world we co-create, last not least how to effectively support the issue of culture and cultures around the world by lifestyle and democratic participation as a Fair Global Citizen.

Understanding of "Culture" is facilitated by giving Cultures "Living Faces, Voices and Hands", thus reducing abstraction and making the invisible tangible, the intangible visible.

Understanding of cohesion in multicomplexity is facilitated by combining general overview, context, practical examples, interaction with real people arranged in explorable illustrated LearnScapes, the Culture Kaleidoscopes. To learn more about LearnScapes follow this link.

The Kaleidoscopes educate for Netizenship, which is the meaningful use of the internet for participatory processes. The Kaleidoscopes represent real people, real institutions and real organisations, thus have their roots in the real world. The learner or "user" is thus empowered to effectively reach out into real life through online communication and online petitions, for responsible travelling, developing community partnerships and sustainability cooperation.

We are gradually developing Culture Kaleidoscopes for the re-presented cultures that feature a broad variety of seen and unseen aspects fo cultures, interviews with traditionals, online magazines, contacts to indigenous organisations, bridges for Fair Travel Community Visits and Volunteerships, knowhow and support for international Grassroots Sustainable Development Cooperation and Classroom Materials.

If you have interest or relations to traditional cultures, you are kindly invited to connect for contributing content and contacts, editing, translating or contributing your ideas and suggestions.
